David Serkin of Lethbridge, Alberta is proving that lightning really can strike more than once—three times, in fact. The cancer survivor and retired local is making headlines after winning the lottery not once, not twice, but three times in just 12 months.
Serkin’s incredible winning streak began last August when he secured a $500,000 prize through a LOTTO MAX ticket issued by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). The win allowed him to fulfill a dream: whisking his wife away on a much-deserved vacation to Hawaii.
Just three months later, fortune smiled on him again when he hit the jackpot in the LOTTO 6/49 draw, claiming a $1 million prize. And now, against staggering odds—1 in 33 million—he’s scored yet another $1 million win in the same lottery game.
“I was just filling up on gas when I decided to buy a ticket,” Serkin shared. He noted that he was intrigued by the nearing Gold Ball draw, telling himself he had nothing to lose.
After discovering the win, Serkin met up with friends for coffee. “They couldn’t believe it,” he said. “When I showed them the ticket, all they could say was, ‘Not again?!’”
According to a statement from the WCLC, Serkin’s wife is still in disbelief over his remarkable luck. But the couple is savoring every moment of this unexpected journey. “We had an amazing trip to Hawaii after the last win,” he said. “This time, we’re off to Newfoundland.”
